Copenhagen Fashion Week is the leading Nordic biannual fashion, and each season, industry leaders attend four days of designer showcases and events. Project Glimmer sat down with Olivela buyer Katie Minshall to share some of the bold brands and trends that hit the runway this season.

Can you share a few of the biggest fashion trends that came from Copenhagen S/S Fashion Week?

Definitely color, color is always present in Copenhagen but it really was featured across the runway with a bang, clashing bold colors in particular. Another trend we saw was shirting and relaxed tailoring, particularly at Mark Kenley Domnino Tan which is a brand we will hopefully be onboarding next season. We also saw a massive comeback of the western theme, think cowboy boots, fringing, double denim, this was both across the runway and street style.

Can you share the process of how what is shown on the runway ends up in stores where our readers shop?

As buyers we visit the brand showrooms, run through the collections with the sales team, the models try on our top picks and then we run through the selected rack of products and edit to what we think will be most relevant for our customer. We then write the order and quantities and confirm with the brand. The key is to really immerse yourself in the mind of the customer and the trends we are focussing on as a business when working through a selection. It is important you have those wow pieces to draw the customer in as well as the styles you know will be best sellers. It is so fun, we are very lucky as buyers to have such creative yet business orientated roles in the fashion industry.

How can a young (American) woman relate?  How does this trend help with personal confidence? Across Copenhagen fashion week on the runway there was such diversity & inclusivity in the model castings, this was amazing to see and something that is often lacking in some of the other fashion weeks. It is great to see change here and I think it gives women the confidence to wear brands that promote these values and feel good when doing so.

Can you share any insight from the designers you worked with in this market? Designer Stine Goya is for anyone who’s not afraid of a bold outfit with a splash of color. They are officially a womenswear brand but have a wide range of unisex styles and encourage everyone to wear them. They believe in the concept of “dopamine dressing” – the power that clothes can weild, imbuing the wearer with happiness and confidence.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers? I saw my favorite Danish influencer Pernille Teisbaek being interviewed at the Ganni show. Pernille has such impeccable style and this was her outfit that night - how chic!
