Project Glimmer would like to introduce one of our board members, Nkia Richardson. She is the Executive Director of CASA of San Mateo county and has recently joined Project Glimmer’s Board of Directors. She previously worked as an attorney for the city of San Jose and cares deeply about youth education.
We had a chance to sit down with Nkia and ask her a few questions about herself.
Please share a little about yourself.
I am the Executive Director of CASA of San Mateo County and I have been a Project Glimmer Board Member since January 2022. I was first introduced to Project Glimmer because of the positive experiences offered to the girls and young women we serve at CASA, girls who are in foster care or have been involved in the justice system. A resident of San Mateo County, I enjoy hiking, travel and the search for the next great meal.
As a board member, I love having the opportunity to use my perspective, skills and experience to help the PG team think through their work from different angles and pursue their mission to the best of their ability.
What part of Project Glimmer excites you the most and why?
I have been a fan of Project Glimmer for some time now and am most excited by the organization's growth and the vision guiding the PG team to constantly search for ways to serve female identifying youth in greater numbers and in deeper ways. I have watched the organization start from a focus on distributing holiday gifts to girls and young women who would otherwise have gone without this source of joy. Since that time, Project Glimmer has grown and found ways to engage individuals and corporate community members to empower female identifying youth in ways that will have a far-reaching impact. Through their gifts and goods, empowerment events and career coaching, Project Glimmer educates, connects and instills confidence.
What advice would you give to your teenage self?
Don’t let fear hold you back.
What’s one hobby you’d love to get into?
I would love to get into swimming.
Project Glimmer is grateful to have inspiring women like Nkia on our Board helping to guide our organization and make a deeper impact in the lives of those we serve. Anyone can help Project Glimmer achieve its mission by partnering with us, volunteering, or shopping our partners.
